Colorful Designs Honoring Generations of Coffee

Packaging for Guatemala Santa Marta Coffee

David, Lillian, and Sabrina Rodriguez, of Santa Marta, Guatemala are single-origin coffee producers. They sought to celebrate both Guatemalan culture and their unique family history with a vibrant custom retail bag for distribution of their coffee directly to consumers in California.

Expressing the brand story through pattern and illustration, the retail bag utilizes several elements that can found on Santa Marta’s existing green export bags from their finca located in the Mataquescuintla highlands. A custom illustration featuring portraits of David’s mother and father embellish the front and back of the bag, complemented by the vivid pink. Additionally, the distinct Guatemalan pattern found on the jute bags was repurposed in the gusset, beautifully contrasting with the bright colors used throughout.
